SolidWorks Engineer / Technician
Full-Time | Custom Metal Manufacturing
Join Our Team!
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated SolidWorks Engineer / Technician to join our team!
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys more than just sitting behind a computer creating CAD drawings. In this role, you’ll have the chance to see your designs come to life by working closely with customers, engineering, and our manufacturing team to turn customer drawings and ideas into high-quality, finished metal products.
If you have hands-on experience in custom metal manufacturing, fabrication, machining, or a job-shop environment and enjoy solving problems, improving designs, and working directly with the people making the parts, we’d love to hear from you!
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll help take projects from the customer’s initial drawing or design all the way through production. Your responsibilities will include:
- Review customer drawings, CAD files, sketches, and specifications to determine manufacturing requirements.
- Create, modify, and maintain DXF files, 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Turn customer designs into practical, production-ready solutions for custom metal parts.
- Review drawings for missing dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, discrepancies, and other potential production issues.
- Apply your knowledge of sheet metal, welding, fabrication, machining, cutting, forming, and other metal manufacturing processes.
- Design parts and assemblies with quality, cost, efficiency, and manufacturability in mind.
- Work closely with machinists, welders, fabricators, CNC operators, and other production team members to troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges.
- Make engineering and design changes based on shop-floor feedback and production needs.
- Assist with estimating material, labor, fabrication, and manufacturing requirements when needed.
- Create and maintain accurate production drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation.
- Communicate with customers when clarification is needed regarding drawings, dimensions, tolerances, or design intent.
- Help move projects smoothly from customer drawing → engineering/CAD → production → finished part.
- Look for opportunities to improve designs, processes, and documentation to help reduce rework and production challenges.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines strong SolidWorks skills with real-world manufacturing experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
-
2+ years of SolidWorks experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with custom metal parts produced from customer drawings.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- A solid understanding of metal manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Experience creating or modifying production-ready drawings and models.
- The ability to evaluate a design and determine whether it can be manufactured efficiently.
- Experience working directly with machinists, welders, fabricators, CNC operators, or other manufacturing professionals.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, dimensions, materials, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential issues before they reach production.
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple custom projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:
- Custom fabrication or job-shop manufacturing
- Sheet metal fabrication
- CNC machining
- Laser, plasma, or waterjet cutting
- Press brake forming
- Welding and welded assemblies
- Machined components
- Structural metal fabrication
- Production fixturing
- Bill of Materials (BOM) creation
- Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Quoting or estimating custom manufactured parts
- Working directly with customers on drawing revisions and design requirements
You’ll Be a Great Fit If...
You’re the type of person who can look at a customer drawing and immediately start thinking:
“How are we actually going to make this?”
You understand that creating a great SolidWorks model is only part of the process. You also think about materials, tolerances, tooling, cutting, forming, welding, machining, assembly, inspection, and what will actually work on the shop floor.
You’re comfortable stepping away from your computer, talking with the people manufacturing the part, understanding what’s working and what isn’t, and then making the necessary changes to help the team succeed.
Most importantly, you take pride in seeing a project through—from the customer’s original drawing to a finished part that is made correctly, efficiently, and consistently.
Education
A degree or technical education in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, CAD/Design, or a related field is preferred.
However, we know that some of the best manufacturing knowledge comes from hands-on experience. Relevant real-world manufacturing experience will be highly valued.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the products we manufacture. You won’t simply create drawings and hand them off—you’ll be involved in helping turn real customer requirements into high-quality custom metal products.
If you enjoy the technical side of SolidWorks and engineering but also like being connected to the manufacturing process and working with a hands-on team, this could be a great fit for you.
If you know SolidWorks, understand how metal parts are actually made, and enjoy solving real-world manufacturing challenges, we’d love to hear from you!
